Vital Book
Although written in 1882, this is still one of the finest books on the subject of the Naval War of 1812 available. It is excellent reading, and established Theodore Roosevelt at the forefront of naval historians of his time. His continued interest in naval affairs lead to his service as Assistant Secretary of the Navy at the start of the Spanish-American War, and while President, the building of the modern US Navy and the Panama Canal.
